Alternative Provision & Creative Learning

Building confidence through creativity

The Art Shed offers personalised creative education for children and young people who may benefit from a different approach to learning.

Based in a dedicated art studio on the outskirts of Coventry, I provide a relaxed, supportive environment where students can develop practical skills, explore their creativity and, most importantly, build confidence in themselves.

With extensive experience as a qualified Art and Design teacher, working with students of different ages, abilities and learning needs, I understand that traditional classroom environments don't suit everyone.

Sessions are carefully planned but flexible, allowing each young person to work at their own pace, develop their interests and experience a sense of achievement.

A Personal Approach

Every young person is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach at The Art Shed.

Through drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media and other creative activities, sessions can focus on:

  • Building confidence, self-esteem and independence

  • Developing communication and social skills

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing through creative activity

  • Improving concentration, coordination and practical skills

  • Encouraging problem-solving, decision-making and resilience

  • Developing artistic skills and working towards individual learning goals

Some students benefit from quiet, focused activities, while others enjoy conversation, collaboration and exploring materials more freely. Activities and expectations are adapted to individual needs.

A Different Learning Environment

The studio offers an informal alternative to the traditional classroom, with opportunities to explore different materials, work practically and learn through making.

The atmosphere is friendly and encouraging, with an emphasis on positive relationships, achievable goals and celebrating progress.

Surrounded by a garden and woodland, The Art Shed also offers opportunities for outdoor creative activities when appropriate.

Specialist Art Tuition

For students working towards GCSE Art and Design, I can provide individual tuition, practical skills development and support with coursework and portfolio preparation.

My experience teaching and working with GCSE and A Level examination boards allows me to combine specialist subject knowledge with a flexible, individual approach.

Working with Schools and Families

The Art Shed is included in Coventry's Alternative Provision Directory and offers individual and small-group creative learning sessions.

I welcome enquiries from schools, SENCOs, professionals and families who would like to discuss whether The Art Shed might be suitable for a particular young person.

Provision can be tailored to individual needs, interests and educational goals.

Please get in touch to discuss individual requirements and available provision.
